Sayville’s Miracle on Main St.

Photography by Drew Snyder

Saturday night kicked off the 5th annual Miracle on Main St. presented by the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce. Friends and family packed the streets to see the 6pm Christmas tree lighting on a night that featured something for all.

With Main St. blocked off, live music filled the air while vendors set up shop and kids lined up to have their photo taken with Santa Claus. Other attractions included Irish dancing, a gingerbread house competition, live reindeer, an old-fashioned carousel, and holiday movies.

By stepping onto the street Saturday night, it was like being sent to a place of nostalgia. In a world filled with stress and hopelessness, something like this was indeed a breathe of fresh air. Something about the atmosphere made you feel like a kid again. Maybe it was seeing the spectators patiently waiting for the Christmas tree to be lit or the smell of chestnuts lingering. Whatever it was, it could have brought a smile to the face of Scrooge himself.

Nights like this don’t come by very often. Sayville’s Miracle on Main St. provided fantastic memories and reminded us that the most important thing is shared moments and the connection between family and friends.
