The Many Loves of Cheryl Engelhardt

by Alysia Stern

Cheryl Engelhardt is a brilliant pianist, an electrifying composer, a lyricist, a superb musician, an ecologist and all round fascinating, independent woman. Cheryl began her melodic career when she was just shy of the age of three. Her parents took her for a group piano lesson, and were surprised that Cheryl became so entranced with learning and wanting to convolute with this particular assemblage. “Before I turned three, my parents took me to a group piano class for kids. We were sitting watching the lesson happen and my mom whispered to my dad something like “look how closely Cheryl is watching” and I looked up at them and put my fingers to my lips and said SSHH. My parents thought that there was something special there so I started taking little baby lessons.”  Cheryl started composing music by the age of  five, watching cartoons on mute and coming up with the music that “she felt” would be felicitous to the broadcast. As she aged, Cheryl became very inspired by and involved in her school’s innovational theatre and drama club. She excelled in vocals and triumphed in composition. “I took clarinet lessons also and learned a few notes but I stopped when I switched schools. But I am playing clarinet in my new CD.” Throughout her life, her parents continued to educate their daughter with private piano lessons. Years later it has all paid off, and now Cheryl is educating others in several aspects of her career.

In college, Cheryl majored in marine biology, ecology and retained a double major in music. “There was a theme of duality I picked up when I got to college. I am very grateful that I was blessed with passion.”  She was also very active and involved in Cornell’s arduous crew team. She had affection for the dolphins and marine life yet an enduring devotion to music. She excelled in both majors, but straight out of college Cheryl landed a job scuba diving in the Delaware River with the State’s United States Geological Survey (USGS). After about a year, Cheryl realized a robust piece of her soul was neglected and that was her love for music. She began to profoundly miss composing music and anything involving harmony, instruments or singing. Cheryl left the USGS to pursue her musical dreams. Years later, Cheryl is still composing music, but this time not while cartoons are on mute. She has composed the music for the Master Card Credit Card, Lysol, Bristol Meyers and Home Depot commercials. She also has composed the background music for television shows like “So You Think You Can Dance”, “The Real World” and “All My Children.” Cheryl lives in a colossal apartment in Harlem, New York and has her own in-home studio which benefits her creative life. She also does vocals and voice overs. Cheryl is, to a great extent, extremely marketable and profoundly personable. Arrangement of orchestra and anything involving violins seems to be the backbone of this marvelous woman. http://www.cbemusic.com/composer/

Cheryl has released three CD’s which can be found at the following links in ITunes: http://bit.ly/s2MJin .

Her newest CD has some cute, funny and witty songs which derived from her learning to trust herself emotionally. “I did not know what was going on with my career, or in my relationships. I got a little anxious and I decided to write music that I needed to hear, instead of expression what was going on. So I wrote some uplifting songs. There is an uplifting overtone to the whole record. I love the arrangement of orchestra I did in the song “Steaming Hearts.” The CD came into fruition in an extremely ingenious way. Cheryl shared with me very honestly how she wanted to make this CD faultless and impeccable, but unfortunately did not have the applicable endowment at the time.  “In 2010, I composed one song a month. My fans had an opportunity once a month to be a part of my songs during this project. I am really glad it worked. Everyone was so generous.” She offered her large fan base an opportunity to be a part of this CD by donating what they wanted to help fund a song and each person could have a contingency and some part in the involvement with the creation of this monumentally perfected album. She made her fans a part of this creation. “Now there is so much more motivation for me to do something with this record. It has to get bigger because there are so many more people now attached to it.” Her idea was a huge success. In 2011 Cheryl and her fans released the CD One Up. From this CD, her newest video for the song ”I luv U” was recently released. It is a song about love, and that love can be found everywhere, in many things, not just in another person.  You can find it on her website or at this link: http://youtu.be/yJCFRzDujHI. You must listen to this sublime CD. “I have also written about 42 pieces of music for College Humor.” http://www.collegehumor.com/search?q=cheryl+b+engelhardt&x=0&y=0&cx=015527643525715189653%3Awxkjoql9ew8&cof=FORID%3A9#901

Cheryl has taken all her education, training and ambition, and has now oscillated from being educated to becoming an educator. She wants everyone to have the in-depth capability and proper steps to shine at their dreams. Cheryl’s 70 page Ecourse: www.cbemusic.com/ecourse is an amazingly intelligible course on how an independent artist or a musician should think outside the box and get their feet wet in this turbulent music industry. “It is sort of about figuring out the goal behind your goal and putting everything into a structure.” Anyone who even thinks they want to become successful should purchase this on her website.

In 2012, we will be able to see Cheryl performing all over the world. She has performed for several week tours in Germany, Switzerland and all over the UK. She is presently looking for an incredible escapade in Brazil. We may even see Cheryl here on Long Island. When asked about her upcoming performances she states, “I have some private shows booked. Unfortunately I am not able to post my potential future 2012 performance dates and vicinities this early in the year. But I do know and can say that I would absolutely love to bring my performance to Long Island.” Cheryl would love to play at Westbury Music Fair, The Paramount or the Brookhaven Amphitheatre.
